Spring Has Sprung in the Shenandoah Valley

With vaccines going out, restrictions winding down, and the weather warming up, spring in the Shenandoah Valley presents the perfect opportunity to finally get out of the house with safe, socially distanced outdoor events and festivals, outdoor activities, and more! Here are a few activities and events we are looking forward to this spring near Weyers Cave;

Festivals:

Sunny spring weather creates the perfect occasion for safe, socially distanced outdoor events.

The Annual Fishersville Antiques Expo will take place on May 7th & 8th at the Augusta Expo Center. As one of the longest-running, top-quality Antique Shows on the East Coast, the Fishersville Antiques Expo features over 300 exhibitors in exhibition halls, barns, tents, and outside.

Visit the historic Town of Dayton for the annual Redbud Festival on Saturday, June 5th. This fun family event has something for everyone, including handmade arts & crafts, delicious local & “Festival-Style” food, treats, and drinks, Historic Downtown walking tours, kids activities, and more!

The Stoneycreek Campground in Greenville will host its annual Bluegrass Music Festival from June 10th to 12th. Come and enjoy three fun-filled days of great bluegrass music, food, prizes, and more!

Hiking near Weyers Cave

Enjoy the beautiful spring foliage and flowers by taking a hike! Weyers Cave offers access to countless beautiful walking paths and hiking trails for any skill level. Some of our favorite trails around Weyers cave include:

As well as many beautiful trails at the nearby Shenandoah National Park! Shenandoah National Park will be offering Fee Free Days at various dates throughout the year, to allow visitors to enjoy the park for free!

Kids Activities:

We’ve all been cooped up this winter and no-one has felt it more than the kids! Spring finally brings the opportunity for them to get outside, release all that pent up energy, and enjoy some activities and events just for them.

Staunton’s 27th Annual YOUTH Fishing Derby will take place May 1st at Lake Tams in Gypsy Hill Park. This free event is open to youth 4-15 years of age with prizes awarded in various categories.

The Frontier Culture Museum is an outdoor, living-history museum that features 11 permanent, outdoor exhibits comprised of original and reconstructed farm buildings from West Africa, England, Ireland, Germany, and Virginia. The museum allows visitors to explore recreations of historic buildings, meet the people who lived there, and engage in hands on activities.

The Family Nite Flix summer movie series in Staunton features free family-friendly movies at the Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand, every other Friday night during the summer months.
